PHOENIX -- Gas prices are taking a dive, just in time for the holidays.

"It's a dollar 99 now," said Rachel Medrano with a laugh.

Many drivers are taking their savings to the store for some last minute gift buying.

"The more money you have in your pocket to spend, the more money that goes into the economy. So that's good for everybody all the way around," said Dejar Nette.

People are spending all they can on Christmas presents this time of year.

"I go in there and my kids are choosing all these kinds of toys and stuff. It's like, wow, and I'm like, you only have 45 dollars so you have to go to your limit," said Medrano, after buying gifts for her children at Target.

That limit gets a little nudge with gas prices hovering around the $2 mark for unleaded.

"Oh yeah. Definitely. Big time. People are in a good mood and they have extra money to spend on other things other than putting everything in their tanks," said Azi Naseri, store clerk at a Chevron in central Phoenix.

That means more cash to pad our pockets and maybe even stash a few extra things under the tree this Christmas.

"It's making Christmas better," said Medrano.
