PHOENIX (AP) -- A man accused of killing a woman whose body was found in a suitcase behind a Phoenix strip mall has pleaded not guilty in the case.

The Maricopa County Superior Court says Semyon Shamsiyev entered the plea during his arraignment Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and abandoning a body.

Authorities say the body of 25-year-old Kali Bouldin was in a suitcase found Dec. 4.

Police say Bouldin was reported missing that night, and her car was found in an apartment complex near where her body was.

Court records show Shamsiyev bought the suitcase with cash at a nearby store less than two hours before a restaurant employee found the body.

Shamsiyev's next court appearance will be a pretrial conference Feb. 4.
