PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix firefighters say a blaze tore through a popular Mexican restaurant and market.

Fire Capt. Benjamin Santillan says crews responded Saturday around 1 a.m. to a fire at La Tolteca Mexican restaurant on Van Buren and 12th Street.

Santillan says approximately 50 firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

According to firefighters, heavy smoke and flames inside made visibility impossible and then went through the building roof.

Santillan says firefighters then left the building to continue putting out flames from the outside.

The building had been unoccupied and no firefighters were injured.

Santillan says the cause is still under investigation.
