Police standoff ends with arrest of suspected thiefPosted: Updated:
CASA GRANDE, Ariz, -- A police standoff in Casa Grande ended with the arrest of a suspected thief who was already wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.
It happened Wednesday afternoon at a home northeast of Florence Boulevard (287) and Pinal Avenue (387) when police responded to a call regarding a domestic violence situation.
The caller identified Abram Ochoa, 31, as one of the people involved in the dispute. Police already were familiar with Ochoa. Not only was he wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, police said he also was a suspect in several retail thefts.
Police set up a perimeter around the home they saw Ochoa enter. Despite several orders to surrender, Ochoa refused to leave the house.
Officers on the scene called in the Pinal Regional SWAT team. After attempts to convince Ochoa to surrender on his own failed, SWAT officers used chemicals to force him outside.
About seven hours after police first arrived on the scene, they took Ochoa into custody without further incident.
