PEORIA, Ariz. -- A 20-year-old man faces three counts of vehicular manslaughter and multiple other charges following an October crash that killed three people and injured 12 others.

Investigators from the Peoria Police Department arrested Manuel Alonso Bastidos Grijalva on Tuesday. In addition to the manslaughter charges, Grijalva faces five counts of aggravated assault, 13 counts of causing a serious injury vehicle crash, five counts of reckless endangerment and underage DUI.

Investigators said Grijalva had six people riding in the cab of his truck and another five in the bed while driving near Lake Pleasant at around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 18.

Investigators said Grijalva was traveling at more than 90 mph as he went into an oncoming lane to try and pass a vehicle that had slowed to make a left turn.

Grijalva's truck hit the car turning and another vehicle, causing his truck to roll over along Old Carefree Highway.

Raul Contreras, 20, and Eric Cuellar Mendoza, 19, died at the scene. Sunni Goddard, 17, died at a local hospital a few days later.

Police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said many of the other victims are still recovering from significant injuries.
