PEORIA, Ariz. -- A 14-year-old boy was hit by a car while crossing a street on Wednesday morning, according to Amanda Jacinto, a Peoria Police Department spokeswoman.

It happened at 7 a.m. on Northern Avenue at 89th Avenue.

The victim was not in a crosswalk.

He was hit by a black sedan and pushed into the center turn lane where he was almost hit by another vehicle.

The boy was crossing the street with another teenager but only one person was struck.

The teen was taken by helicopter to a hospital. He is expected to survive.

Northern Avenue was closed between 89th and 87th avenues while police investigated the incident.
