Cheap gas! Phoenix station lowers price to $1.99 per gallonPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- We're all trying to save a few bucks this holiday season. And folks filling up at one Valley gas station will be getting a big break on gas prices.
How does $1.99 per gallon sound? It's happening at the Valero gas station on the corner of 20th Street and Osborn. But the discount applies to cash purchases only. The special runs through New Year's Day.
But be prepared to wait in line! Drivers started lining up before dawn Monday to cash in on the great gas deal. Throughout the morning, the line of cars stretched all the way down the block.
Derrick Wyatt was already in line and waiting almost an hour before the station even opened. "Yeah, it's worth it," he says. "This is cheap gas anyway, but every dollar helps."
The owner of the Valero station says he lowered the price to say "thank you" and "Merry Christmas" to Valley residents.
And it's a pretty good savings. In Arizona right now, the average gas price is $2.46, and the average car holds about 12 gallons of gas. So the average trip to the pumps costs about $29.52. But at $1.99 a gallon, it will cost $23.88.
