Soldier from Mesa killed in Afghanistan

MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- The Department of Defense says a U.S. Army soldier from Mesa was one of two servicemen who died from wounds suffered during an attack in Afghanistan.

Officials said Sunday that Spc. Wyatt J. Martin died Friday in Parwan Province, Afghanistan. The vehicle Martin was in was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

Also killed in the attack was Sgt. 1st Class Ramon S. Morris, of New York, New York.

The 22-year-old Martin was assigned to the 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
