PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities in north-central Arizona say a Prescott Valley man is in custody for alleged child abuse.
Prescott Valley police say 21-year-old Cody Claywell was arrested Wednesday stemming from an Oct. 25 incident.
Police say a 4-month-old child received significant head and brain trauma resulting in blindness, brain damage and cardiac arrest.
Medical staff resuscitated the baby and the infant was recently released from the hospital.
Authorities say the child's mother was away at work at the time of the incident.
The state Department of Child Safety and the Office of Child Welfare conducted a six-week investigation, which resulted in probable cause for Claywell's arrest.
Prosecutors say Claywell could face up to 27 years in prison if convicted in the case.
It was unclear Thursday if he has an attorney yet.
