TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Pima County authorities say a man is in custody in connection with the smothering death of his 89-year-old father seven months ago.
County Sheriff's officials say 57-year-old Michael Thomas Eckhardt is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Eckardt lives in Los Gatos, California. It was unclear Tuesday if he has a lawyer.
Paramedics responded to a Tucson-area home on May 26 and deputies were called to the scene where they found the body of 89-year-old Hans Albert Eckhardt.
Deputies say Michael Eckhardt claimed his father woke up in the middle of the night yelling and calling him by a different name.
Michael Eckhardt allegedly placed a pillow over his father's face and the elderly man stopped breathing.
The county Medical Examiner ruled the smothering death as a homicide.
