SEDONA, Ariz. (AP) -- The apparent remains of a hiker missing for nearly a year have been found in northern Arizona.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that search crews believe they are those of 22-year-old Thomas Lang.

Authorities suspended an official search for him last December. But his parents and search crews on training missions continued looking for Lang.

His mother called authorities last week after finding a jacket and shoes.

Sheriff's officials coordinated a search in the Secret Canyon area. Crews found the remains Sunday.

Medical examiners are working to identify them, and determine the cause and manner of death.

Lang was last seen Dec. 18 at the Manzanita Campground in Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona. He didn't have a cellphone or any food because he was fasting.
