Flagstaff-area monuments seek hike in entry feesPosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Three national monuments around Flagstaff are seeking to increase entrance fees.
The additional revenue at Sunset Crater Volcano, Wupatki and Walnut Canyon national monuments would go to visitor services, facilities, interpretive programs and resource protection.
The public has until Jan. 24 to comment on the proposed increases.
A seven-day pass at Walnut Canyon would change from $5 to $8 per person.
The combined entrance fee for Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki would double from $5 to $10 per person. Changes also are proposed for overnight hikes at Wupatki.
The National Park Service has said that about 115 of its 401 park units across the country plan to seek fee increases.
