BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- Fire destroyed a building at the Copper Canyon Golf Club on Wednesday morning.

The building was used to store golf carts.

The fire began about 3:30 a.m. on the north side of the clubhouse and spread to part of the pro shop, Buckeye Fire Department Capt. Tommy Taylor said.

Taylor said the building's alarm and fire sprinkling system operated "as they were supposed to" and as a result, no items in the pro shop were damaged.

Taylor said the clubhouse grill and other facilities in the 5,000-square-foot building would be open, but the pro shop would remain closed.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Taylor said.
