CAMP VERDE, Ariz. -- A 41-year-old man was rescued after spending several days stranded in a wash northeast of Camp Verde, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to the area Sunday afternoon after a caller reported hearing someone yelling near a stranded SUV. The caller could not get close enough to see what was happening.
Deputies had to utilize a 4x4 vehicle on a portion of the road and then hiked another half-mile to the location.
They found Sean Maguire, of Rimrock, lying in the wash in front of his vehicle with a wheelchair nearby. He told deputies he is a paraplegic, recently had back surgery and had sustained injuries from the crash.
Maguire was extremely dehydrated and claimed he had been stuck for several days in the wash without food or water.
He told deputies he left a relative's home in Camp Verde a few days earlier with no particular destination in mind and was unsure how he ended up in the wash.
Family members last saw him on Nov. 20.
Maguire was taken to a Phoenix-area hospital. He suffered dehydration, rib injuries and back pain.
