GILBERT, Ariz. -- Gilbert police said two men are dead following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of McQueen and Elliot roads.

The collision occurred around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, a white Isuzu SUV driven by Dakota Fernandez, 22, was traveling westbound on Elliot, likely at a high rate of speed, when it ran a red light at McQueen and struck a northbound gray Ford Escort driven by Justin Tharp, 34.

The force of the collision sent the SUV into a traffic signal pole on the northwest corner, knocking it over.

The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles.
