PHOENIX -- A Valley man has invented a device to make skateboarding safer.

Rockochet universally mounts to skateboards and deflects rocks and other debris which can trip up skateboarders.

Jorge Arjona said he came up with the idea after his nephew was in a skateboarding accident. He hit a rock, flew off his board and was struck by a car which then dragged him 20 feet.

"That's when I thought that I needed to create something to help skateboarders ride more safely without limiting the things that they can do on the skateboard," Arjona said.

His nephew recovered and now stars in a video promoting Rockochet.

Arjona has launched a Kickstarter campaign in an effort to raise $20,000 for the project.
