PEORIA, Ariz. -- Six people were displaced after a chimney fire burned two townhomes in Peoria early Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called to the Discovery at the Orchard townhomes near 79th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 1 a.m. after smoke started filling one of the homes.

Initially, firefighters didn't know where the smoke was coming from. They eventually realized it was coming from a shared chimney.

The neighbors lit a fire in their fireplace Friday night, which caused some debris inside the chimney to ignite.

A family of four who lived in one unit and a couple who lit the fire in the adjacent unit were forced out.

No injuries were reported.
