PHOENIX -- NFL star Markus Wheaton donated 200 turkeys to St. Mary's Food Bank for families that visit their mobile pantry site at South Mountain Community College Friday morning.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and former Mountain Pointe High School star spent his bye week at home in Phoenix.

"It's a pleasure for me to come back and give back to a community that I'm from. The community that raised me," Wheaton said.

St. Mary's Food Bank and Wheaton helped the South Phoenix community by handing out turkeys for two hours Friday morning.

"We have 400 of these mobile pantries throughout the Valley and Markus called and said he wanted to do one in his neighborhood," Jerry Brown of St. Mary's Food Bank said. "He wanted to give back to his community."

St. Mary's will be holding their annual Super Saturday Turkey Drive this Saturday.
