Man arrested after alleged sexual abuse of 12-year-old Buckeye girlPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. – A Glendale man was arrested after police said he kissed and groped a 12-year-old girl.
Ivan Gamboa, 22, faces one count each of sexual abuse and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
Buckeye police were called to the girl's school on Nov. 13 after she told her mother that Gamboa had kissed and groped her in a park near her home, according to court documents. Investigators said he picked the girl up in the school's parking lot before the incident.
Police said Gamboa used to work for the victim's father and that he and the girl had been texting and corresponding on Facebook for about three weeks prior to meeting.
Police asked if the girl would be willing to confront Gamboa on the telephone and she consented. Officers listened in on the conversation during which Gamboa told the girl he wanted to continue what they had started and that he had romantic feelings for her, according to court records.
The court documents say Gamboa told the girl that they couldn't see each other for a while because he did not want to get into trouble. He also asked her to send him a "sexy picture" so he would know that she was alone.
Gamboa was taken into custody Monday morning near University Drive and 24th Street in Phoenix.
Gamboa told police that he met the girl in front of her school and took her to her home. He admitted to police that he kissed the girl and groped her breasts then her mother called and he took the girl back to school, according to the documents.
He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail.
A search warrant was issued for Gamboa's cellphone after he refused to give officers the pass code and asked for an attorney.
