Job seekers presented with unique employment opportunityPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Goodwill of Central Arizona hosted its Hiring Fest at all Goodwill Career Centers in Maricopa County, Prescott and Yuma on Wednesday.
Each center hosted different hiring companies representing a variety of industries and skill levels. Employers included Goodwill, Apollo Group, University of Phoenix, Pride Group and Charles Schwab.
"I was like, 'Oh, yes, thank you. Something to get me going,' " said Mildred Lomahoema, who has been looking for a job for months.
She recently moved to the Valley from Tuba City hoping to find better job opportunities. She says she welcomed news of a Goodwill job fair.
"I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I got down here," she said.
The job fair was available at nearly two dozen career centers, with representatives from a host of Valley companies seeking new employees.
"We go out, we make those connections, we find the positions, and we bring them back here to our career center so that when you come to a Goodwill center you have direct access to companies that are hiring," said Lea Soto, a Goodwill spokeswoman.
Soto says job seekers are encouraged to visit a Goodwill Career Center Monday through Friday. She says to bring resumes, dress professionally and be prepared to talk to hiring managers.
