SURPRISE, Ariz. – A 30-year-old Phoenix man incarcerated at a Maricopa County jail faces additional charges after he was linked to a bank robbery in Surprise.

Surprise police said evidence shows that Michael John Dale robbed the U.S. Bank inside a Safeway store near Waddell and Litchfield roads at approximately 5 p.m. on May 12.

According to police, the suspect handed a teller a small blue and white Harkins Theatres popcorn bag and verbally demanded money. The teller gave him a known quantity of cash along with a GPS tracker and he fled the bank.

Police said Dale also is suspected in other bank robberies in neighboring cities.

On Oct. 30, police discovered that Dale was being held at a Maricopa County jail facility on unrelated charges.

Sgt. Mike Donovan said Dale has been charged with additional crimes, including robbery and theft of means of transportation.

Surprise police detectives worked with the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force to identify a suspect.
