MESA, Ariz. – A possible abduction in Mesa over the weekend has been solved as "young adults messing around," according to police.

Detective Steve Berry said three young men walked into a Mesa police station Monday afternoon and said that they were the subjects in surveillance video released on Sunday.

The video showed several people grabbing a male and forcing him into the back of an SUV at Southern Avenue and Horne around 1 a.m. Saturday.

At the time, police did not know if it was a prank or an actual abduction but said they were worried about the safety of the "victim" and asked for information from the public.

Berry said the men told police that they were just messing around and picking up their friend.

"One of the boys saw the media coverage and thought it was best that they came forward," Berry said.

According to Berry, they were sorry for causing a problem and said it was never their intention to draw attention to themselves.
