SELIGMAN, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a 71-year-old northern Arizona man fatally shot his longtime girlfriend over the weekend.

Richard Hollman faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 62-year-old Carol Sheansy at a home west of Seligman on Saturday. He's being held at the Coconino County jail on a $1 million bond.

Coconino County sheriff's Lt. Tim Cornelius says Hollman called authorities to report the shooting and later offered up different reasons about why he did it. He says detectives questioned Hollman's competency and are following up on a motive.

A search of the home turned up a gun that authorities believe was used in the shooting. Cornelius says Hollman fired a single shot at Sheansy.

He says authorities also discovered 20 pounds of high-grade marijuana in the garage.
