TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- University of Arizona officials have placed a fraternity under interim suspension and launched an investigation into reported student code of conduct violations.

School officials announced Monday that effective immediately, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity must cease all activity on the Tucson campus pending the outcome of the investigation.

An interim suspension of recognition is initiated when an organization is deemed to potentially present a substantial risk to the members of the university community.

The investigation is over allegations that chapter members engaged in acts of discrimination and assault against members of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

The SAE chapter will have the opportunity to respond to any findings of conduct violations.

Authorities say the chapter's national office is aware of the allegations.
