PEORIA, Ariz. -- A young man was able to walk away from a wreck that split his car in half.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the 18-year-old was driving on Loop 101 at Thunderbird Road in Peoria late Sunday morning when he veered onto the soft shoulder and lost control.

His car clipped a tree, spun around and hit a second tree, ripping off the back of the vehicle.

The front half then slammed head-on into a third tree, finally coming to a stop.

The driver got out of the vehicle virtually unhurt. He was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

The teen's mother rushed to the scene and was grateful to be able to hug her son.
