MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police are investigating a possible abduction.

Police said a Hispanic male between 18 and 30 years old wearing a red T-shirt entered the parking lot of a Circle K at Southern Avenue and Horne around 1 a.m. Saturday. He appeared to be talking on his phone for a minute and then began to leave northbound on foot.

A silver or gold SUV entered the parking lot from the east and parked for a moment.

"It turned off its lights, as if the occupants were watching the victim," Detective Steve Berry said in a news release.

The SUV then drove over to the victim and four or five men got out, grabbed him and forced him into the back of the vehicle.

The SUV then headed southbound on Horne.

The vehicle is described as a silver or gold Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe or GMC Yukon Denali. The people in the vehicle are described as Hispanic males between 30 and 50 years old.

"We don't know, is this a prank? Is this something real? We simply don't know," Berry said.

At this point, police have no reports of anyone missing but are worried about the safety of the victim.

"If it is a prank, we would love for someone to call us anonymously or something and tell us it's a prank with some sort of verifiable information, anything that lets us know that we don't have someone out there in harm's way and we don't have that type of criminal out there who is abducting people off of the street," Berry said.

Police have released surveillance video of the incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.
