PHOENIX -- It was a walk to raise awareness about respiratory problems called Lung Force Walk, but it focused on one issue in particular.

"Our primary focus is the fight against woman's lung cancer. A lot of people don't realize that lung cancer is the No. 1 cancer killer in the U.S. in women," said Larry Blumenthal, who helped organize the walk.

It was free to register, and about 1,000 people showed up to walk the border of Riverview Lake Park, including Emma Rodriquez and her two girls who both have asthma.

"If a lot of people don't know about asthma. It actually restricts them from doing a couple of the activities because people don't know how to react to it when they're having an asthma attack or when they're having problems breathing," Rodriguez. said.

Money raised through donations will all go to respiratory research and events specifically designed for kids with respiratory problems.

"There are a lot of heroes out here that have the same thing too, so it's kind of nice to be in the area where everybody knows what's going on," said Rodriguez.
