Border Patrol seizes 100 pounds of meth near Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. -- Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 100 pounds of methamphetamine from a vehicle Thursday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents assigned to the Wellton Station stopped a driver who allegedly tried to circumvent the checkpoint on Interstate 8 east of Yuma.

Agents searched the vehicle after an alert from a drug-sniffing K-9 and reportedly discovered a false compartment containing 78 packages of meth.

The meth has an estimated value of $500,000.
