PHOENIX – A mechanic died Tuesday after he was crushed by a car at a Phoenix business.

Salbador Gonzalez, 43, was last seen around 11 a.m. working on a vehicle in a garage at Fred Carries Contracts Inc. near Van Buren and 12th streets.

He was underneath the car when it apparently slipped off a jack and fell on his chest.

Another employee found him around 1:30 p.m. and called 911, but paramedics who arrived on the scene said he was already dead.

The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety is investigating.
