PHOENIX – A fire at a mobile home Tuesday morning is under investigation.

Phoenix firefighters responded to a fire at a double-wide manufactured home near 35th Avenue and Beardsley Road around 8:30 a.m.

Capt. Benjamin Santillan said crews were met with heavy smoke and flames but quickly extinguished the fire.

Brian Avery, who lives in the home with his sister, said he left just after 8 a.m. to get something to eat and returned to find it on fire.

"When I tried to open the door, a lot of black smoke came out, just a ton of it," Avery said.

He was able to get his dog out then called 911.

His sister was not home at the time.

Avery said he wishes he would have been there when the fire started because there was a fire extinguisher in the home.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home. The crisis response team and American Red Cross will assist the occupants.
