MESA, Ariz. – City officials say Mesa residents should not be alarmed if their tap water is a little cloudy.

People who live east of the Loop 101 to the Eastern Canal and north of Baseline Road may experience the cloudiness.

Officials said the cloudiness is caused by pressurized air in the water related to a routine switch from surface water to well water.

They said the switch to well water is necessary when maintenance is performed at a water treatment plant. The Val Vista Water Treatment Plant is currently having routine maintenance performed and will return to service in mid-December.

Officials said the water may look unsanitary, but it's completely harmless.

"An easy solution to cloudy water is to fill a pitcher with tap water and place it in the refrigerator," Water Quality Supervisor Ken Marshall said. "The air bubbles will dissipate and the water will be crystal clear and cold when the next glass of water is poured from the pitcher."
