Thousands of seasonal jobs still up for grabsPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Christmas will be here before you know it and businesses all across the Valley are looking for some holiday help.
Online retailer Amazon needs a number of new employees fast, and the company is looking to hire people on the spot.
Amazon staffers hired a couple hundred people right on the spot Monday pending background checks and drug screenings, and they got many of those people to apply using a robo-call.
"We wanted to invite you in because we still have job openings at Amazon…” said the recorded message.
The robo-call brought in hundreds of people to Integrity Staffing Solutions, the staffing center Amazon is working with to help fill its positions.
"I got a robo-call, and then I came in,” said Richard Milton, who is looking for a job.
"I got a robo-call that said it was walk in, and you can get a job on the spot,” said Brenda Barelle, also looking for a job.
Many people who showed up Monday did get hired. "They liked me, and I was hired right on the spot with hours that I can work with as a single mother," said Cheynda Wormley.
"I took a picture for a badge. I'm just waiting for my background check to come back, and I come back next week," said Barelle.
Potential employees said all they did was follow the instructions on the robo-call.
"Please bring ID with you to prove your right to work in the U.S.,” said the recorded message. "No high school diploma or GED is required."
“The interview can be done here,” said Chris Werner with Integrity Staffing Solutions. “Everything can be done here: the drug test, signing off all of your tax paperwork, and getting your assignment. You're basically walking out with a job offer that's contingent of the drug test results and passing a background check."
Integrity Staffing Solutions is working with Amazon to fill thousands of seasonal positions.
"In the next few weeks, we will be putting upwards of five thousand people back to work," said Werner.
Like Barelle, who said she's been looking for a job for four months.
"You put in applications online, it seems everywhere, but by the time you've gotten done with it, someone else already has the job," she said.
But here, she said she was offered a job the same day.
"The process is only a couple of hours long," said Barelle.
Amazon tells 3TV this year, they've already turned 10 thousand seasonal workers to full time employees, and they said they are looking to turn more seasonal workers to full time.
If you're interested in applying for seasonal work, Integrity Staffing Solutions will open its doors again Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The company is open all week except Sunday.
Available positions include day and night shift opportunities in picking, packing, shipping, receiving and management, with pay rates of up to $11.75 an hour.
