PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Zoo welcomed its new baby Bornean orangutan with a baby shower Saturday morning.

Several guests brought gifts from the Amazon.com registry, congratulated parents Bess and Michael with messages on a giant card, and watched as Bess revealed her baby's name.

Zoo staff spread peanut butter -- one of the orangutans' favorite treats -- on the back of two name cards that had the winning name. When Bess picked up the cards to eat the peanut butter, she revealed the name Jiwa, which is Indonesian for "soul."

According to the zoo, more than 10,000 people voted in an online contest to determine the name of the orangutan, who was born Sept. 2.

Jiwa crept up in the last few hours, beating the name Duke by more than 1,400 votes. That name was meant to honor the baby's grandmother, Duchess, who lost her battle with cancer in 2012.

Bess, Jiwa and the rest of the orangutan family celebrated with a cake and other treats.
