PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities say a Phoenix man is in custody for allegedly shooting and wounding a dog.

Phoenix police arrested 27-year-old Dustin Scott Peck on Sunday night.

Peck and his relatives had been drinking and Peck says they were trying to get into his house and he would shoot them if they did.

When police got to the home, Peck's relatives say he was arguing with family members about their 1-year-old bulldog.

Police were told Peck shot the bulldog for an aggressive attitude during feeding time.

Officers say the dog had four gunshot wounds to his back leg and along his left side.

Court records show Peck was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in city limits, animal cruelty and resisting arrest.

It was unclear Thursday if Peck has a lawyer.
