PHOENIX -- The Marine Corps is celebrating 239 years this week and local Marines are honoring the anniversary by participating in a 37 hour commemorative run.
The run started Wednesday night at 5 p.m. and at least one man or woman had to be running at all times, passing off the baton. In the last mile, all 50 marines ran in formation.
In total, 50 marines ran 239 miles around the State Capitol.
"When we conclude our final mile here it's really going to sum up what this run is about. We've got Marine Corps Veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and also Afghanistan and what we're gonna do with those folks is they're gonna be staged right at the conclusion of our run," Sgt. Tyler Bolken said.
They held a ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday morning near State Capitol-Park in Phoenix to conclude the 239-mile run.
