PHOENIX -- This can be a tough time of year for a lot of Valley families. But one group is helping out by handing out free boxes of food.

Saint Mary's Food Bank dropped off nearly 8,000 pounds of Food at South Mountain Community College Friday, for its Mobile Pantry Distribution.

Folks were lined up early to fill a box of food at no charge. The Mobile Pantry is open to the public and completely free. No identification or qualifying is required.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are also available for all families or individuals in need.

"It's a wonderful opportunity," one participant tells us. "It provides all of us with things we need on a regular basis for our homes, cooking, whatever. And it's a nice program. It offers so many wonderful food items."

The Mobile Pantry has been open since September. It takes place twice per month, usually the first and third Fridays of the month, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the South Mountain Community College Performing Arts Center.

Distribution dates for the remainder of the year are as follows: November 21, December 5, and December 19.

South Mountain Community College is located at 7050 S. 24th Street, Phoenix, just north of Baseline Rd. For additional information, please call 602-243-8065.
