Small plane has emergency landing in ArizonaPosted: Updated:
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) -- A pilot and his passenger escaped injury after a small plane had an emergency landing about 20 miles east of Lake Havasu City near the Arizona-California border.
Mohave County Sheriff's officials say the Beechcraft Bonanza had engine trouble shortly after noon Wednesday.
They say the pilot and his passenger from Colorado were flying to California when the plane's engine went idle due to a fuel pump going out.
During the emergency landing on natural gas pipeline road, the plane hit a soft patch of sand which pulled it into a Joshua tree where a wing was torn off the plane.
Authorities say the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified about the incident.
