SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Navajo Elementary is this week's cool school for their excellence with the STEM program and creativity in allowing students to come up with innovative solutions to real problems.

STEM schools incorporate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in to classes and programs.

"We are a finalist for the Arizona Super Bowl Best STEM school, we are so proud, so exciting," Amy Moore, principal of Navajo Elementary School, said. "You can see the kids actually out here. We try to take real world problems, bring it to our classrooms, and have the greatest innovators on earth, our kids, try to solve it with real world solutions."

The students were taking measurements and coming up with ways to keep their garden plants from freezing in the upcoming winter months on Wednesday.

"We are trying to create a device as you might call it to protect the plants from frostbite," one 5th grade student said.
