Woman falls from motorcycle in Phoenix, suffers head injuryPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- An 18-year-old woman who suffered a severe head injury after falling from a motorcycle Tuesday night isn't expected to survive.
Phoenix police said the woman was traveling southbound on Seventh Avenue approaching Southgate Avenue when she lost control of the motorcycle, fell to the street and hit her head on the pavement.
"The victim was transported to a local hospital where, sadly, she is not expected to survive the injury," Officer James Holmes said in an email to 3TV.
The motorcycle remained upright and traveled onto a sidewalk where it hit a wrought-iron fence then slid into the northbound lane. A pickup truck struck the motorcycle just prior to it coming to a stop. The truck sustained minor damage to its left front bumper.
Police said speed is believed to have been a factor and the investigation is continuing.
The woman's name has not been released.
