Home tours go to the birds with 'Tour de Coops'Posted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- You've heard of home tours, but this is the most unusual home tour you'll ever experience.
Called the Tour de Coops, the tour this Saturday will take you to the Valley's most unique and funky backyard chicken coops!
The tour is the signature fund-raising event for the Valley Permaculture Alliance.
says Sarah Osteen with the Valley Permaculture Alliance
Dubbed the Valley’s “most unique home tour," Tour de Coops is a self-guided tour that celebrates urban chickens and sustainable living.
Enjoy a self-guided tour of 22 homes with backyard chicken coops in the Valley. You can take the tour either by car or bicycle.
"We tried to match some of the sheds and buildings on our property," says Daniel Gottlieb, who owns a chicken coop. "That way it would fit in with the compound we built here on our property."
Tour-goers can share coop design tips, chicken keeping secrets and discuss other sustainable practices with members of the community who are already keeping chickens in their backyard.
