PHOENIX – A woman hit by a car while running to catch a bus in west Phoenix Monday morning has died.

According to police, Rasema Sulijic, 56, was walking along the east side of 35th Avenue just south of Northern Avenue around 6 a.m. when she saw her bus approaching.

She attempted to beat the bus to the bus stop by running across the road mid-block and was struck by a southbound Nissan Versa.

Sulijic sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for immediate medical treatment. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police said the 57-year-old driver of the Nissan stopped and remained at the scene. Police said there were no indications of impairment and speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision.

Officer James Holmes said the driver does not face any charges at this time.
