PHOENIX -- Stomping through water is not an uncommon scene after a big storm, but the problem on Saturday was, there was no storm.

“The way I look at it is the only thing left to do is laugh. Like they say, water under the bridge,” said Mike Barriga, whose Tempe home was full of water Saturday after a 12-inch water main break. “I've got a lot of water in my boots.”

The break happened early in the morning near Scottsdale and Curry roads.

“I got up to use the bathroom and then I heard noise," Barriga said. "I was wondering where that noise was coming from, and I looked over at the front door and I saw the water."

While the city worked to repair the line, Barriga spent his Saturday cleaning up the mess.

“Over a foot inside and two to three feet over the property, which is a lot of water,” he said.

At this point, the city isn't sure why the line broke.
