Sketches released in sexual assault of elderly womanPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. – Tempe police have released two sketches of a suspect in the sexual assault of a 91-year-old woman.
Police said the suspect sexually assaulted the woman in her home near Southern Avenue and Rural Road on Oct. 18.
Detectives worked with surrounding agencies to identify any similar cases. Tempe police spokeswoman Molly Enright said results of DNA samples collected from the scene matched the DNA of a suspect involved in several sexual offenses in Mesa.
Enright said Mesa police investigated an attempted sexual assault that occurred in the area of Southern Avenue and Longmore in January 2012.
Since that time, several incidents in which witnesses described a similar suspect were reported in Mesa. Police said the suspect exposed himself and masturbated in front of women in various apartment complexes in the same area as the attempted sexual assault.
Two victims from the Mesa incidents helped with the composite sketches.
Police are asking for the public's help to identify and locate the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, silentwitness.org.
Both Mesa and Tempe Police continue to search for and identify a sexual predator that has committed several serious sex offenses over the past two years, to include a violent sexual assault of an elderly female. Investigators have provided this suspect description:
