SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Camelback Desert School is this week's cool school with their innovative ways of combining fun and academics.

The school had a Halloween parade Wednesday that allowed students from preschool to 5th grade to dress up.

Camelback Desert also planned a pumpkin patch and hay ride to students in honor of the holiday.

The school also has a special "Links to Learning" curriculum for preschoolers that engages the child's senses, mind and body.

The programs incorporate challenging yet fun meaningful activities to develop confidence, self-reliance, and social skills. The curriculum is for children two to five years old.

Students need more than just academic content to achieve goals in school and in their careers, according to research. The program incorporates projects that teach important skills such as critical thinking, media literacy, self-direction, accountability and more.

They divide these lessons in to four different themed quarters: global awareness, environmental studies, systems, and leadership.
