PHOENIX -- A South Phoenix community is being brought together by a local artist who started a mosaic wall project spanning 100 feet.

Theresa Lillian and about 100 volunteers are creating a piece of art entirely of mosaic pieces in what she calls the Unity Wall Mosaic.

"I saw that there's a lot of power on bringing people together especially communities," Lillian said. "People came last week with their families, children of all ages. My aunt came. She's 87 years old and she applied the tile to the wall."

The purpose of the wall is to create a safe environment for families and children.

"It helps people to be a part of something, to be proud of something," Lillian said. "It's a lot of work, but it's well worth it."

The project is sponsored by the Love Thy Neighbor Partnership.

Anyone can participate in this ongoing project that will be happening over the next of couple weeks.
