GILBERT, Ariz. -- Lisa's Rum Cakes in Gilbert is celebrating 40 years of business.
"We specialize in layered cakes. They all have Italian custard with our signature Italian whipped cream icing so it's a very unique product," Madison Power, Lisa's Rum Cake baker, said. "We are known for our cakes being super moist."
The popular East Valley bakery will be holding an anniversary party in honor of the Power family making these cakes for 40 years.
The party will take place Nov. 5 at Lisa's Rum Cake near Elliot and Arizona Avenue.
There will be free samplings and a chance to see what's available for the holidays.
Shoppers can bring in a non-perishable food item that will be donated to a local food bank to get discounts on the cakes and cake cuts.
The shop started with Lisa's mom Cathy Powel and Lisa's family has kept the store a family operation since then.
"The recipe is a family recipe and it was created by my great aunt," Madison Power said. "And she actually had a food allergy to real rum so by trade it's a non-alcoholic extract we use."
They have 71 flavors and now ship rum cakes all over the country.
They also have new flavors including The Atomic, Chocolate Pumpkin Chip, and Mint Chocolate Chip.
