PHOENIX -- The Phoenician launched a new event last week involving birds that will take place every Friday and Saturday night.

The new year-round event will happen at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday around sunset on their Thirsty Camel Patio.

"It's our new premier iconic event at the Phoenician. It's something really exciting, basically encapsulating something new and contemporary while focusing on our old traditions," Caitlin Mcallister, Director of Leisure and Recreation at the resort, said.

The resort has 17 birds of prey on property.

The show will tell the story of the mythological Mayan Fire Spirit and feature South American Vulture Zopilote Rey.

After each story Master Falconer Robby Sinkler will be available for questions and the bird will be available for photos.

"Everyone is welcome, both guests and locals. It's one of our many programs that we're introducing here that's open to both locals and guests so you don't have to have a room to enjoy the programming here," Mcallister said.
