PHOENIX – Phoenix police say a 13-year-old boy stabbed his mother's boyfriend during a domestic dispute at their home near 23rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road Monday morning.

Police said the woman and her boyfriend were involved in an argument that turned physical and her two children tried to intervene.

Sgt. Trent Crump said both kids were pushed away by the man as he continued to physically assault their mother. The 13-year-old then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the man.

The man stumbled out of the home then went to a neighbor's house and banged on the door for help.

"As soon as I opened the door, he literally fell into the living room and said, 'She stabbed me, she stabbed me,'" neighbor Jorge Silvia said.

The man was transported to a trauma center with a stab wound to the chest. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police said they initially received conflicting stories about what had happened.
