PHOENIX -- A family has been displaced after a fire ripped through the attic of their Phoenix home Friday afternoon.

Phoenix firefighters were called to a house near 37th Street and Coronado Road shortly before 2:30 p.m. The caller reported that the attic was on fire and dogs were still inside the house.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Benjamin Santillan said the flames were quickly extinguished and the dogs were rescued.

Firefighters have been working to preserve the family's belongings.

Santillan did not know how many people live in the house but said the department's crisis response team is assisting them.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
