SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Top Polo talent from around the world will be showcased in this weekend's 4th annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships.

"The Championships: Horses & Horsepower" will be held Oct. 25 and 26 at WestWorld of Scottsdale.

There will be great polo action from the top polo players in the US, the Wales Clogau Polo team, the Gay Polo League to the best women's team ever assembled.

"You've got a two-day event, two games each day," says Ricky Cooper, the captain of the Wales team. "You've got the fashion show. You've got the Gay Polo League taking part. You have World Food Championship."

Events being held will include four polo match-ups, and a live art auction. Also, don't miss the World Food Championships.

And how about polo for pooches? Not exactly, but you can enter your pet into the Applewood Pet Resort's Canine Couture runway show on Saturday, Oct. 25.The event will be a showcase of Scottsdale’s most stylish pooches. Participation in the fashion show is open to all breeds and age of dogs. Dogs will be judged on their appearance and the creativity of their outfits by a panel of canine couture experts.

“It’s going to be the most fabulous dog show,” says organizer Ivan Lugo. “We want people to be creative and create their own costumes.”

Last fall the Scottsdale Polo Championships drew the biggest crowd in the country, with some 12,442 fans enjoying the four-match showdown at the annual Polo Party. This year, the polo event is expected to draw up to 15,000 polo fans and revelers.

With the backdrop of the McDowell Mountains and beautiful white tents lining the field, the Polo Party will be a weekend destination for both local residents and tourists, especially with some of the world’s top polo players on hand.

It all gets started on Saturday, October 25, when gates open at 11:00 a.m. The lineup features top professional female polo players in the world like Sunny Hale, Sarah Wiseman and Paola Martinez, and the top gay polo player in the world, Caroline Anier, on the Women’s World All-Star Team vs. the event’s reigning champions, the Clogau Wales Polo Team, which plays with Princes Charles, William and Harry. The Arizona Polo Club will also take on the Gay Polo League, the nation’s only organized gay sports league.

An All-Star match between the weekend’s top players will take place alongside the USPA Governor’s Cup on Sunday, commemorating the United States Polo Association’s decision to hold its prestigious Annual Meeting in conjunction with this year’s event.

Attendees will also enjoy a sneak preview of the 2015 Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and see some serious horsepower with a preview of the world-famous Barrett-Jackson 2015 Collector Car Auction along with local car clubs lining the field. This year will also feature the 2014 Arizona Porsche Concours d’Elegance car show. And if you own a Bentley you get to park right on the field.

Sponsored by the City of Scottsdale, Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, Bentley Scottsdale, Molina Fine Jewelers and many others, the Scottsdale Polo Championships: Horses & Horsepower debuted in November of 2011 with approximately 2,300 people in attendance.

Scottsdale is the most attended step on the Professional Golf Association Tour every year and in October of 2012, after receiving national and international exposure, the 2nd Annual Scottsdale Polo Championships was the most attended one-day polo event in the United States.

There is actually a polo league in Arizona. You can find out more at arizonapolo.com.   "Polo is really open for anybody," says Natalie Granvcharov-Camacho of the Arizona Polo Club. "We have people of all ages, all backgrounds. You don't have to know anything about horses of anything."
